Nepali Leader Nidhi Meets Israeli Ambassador to Discuss Bipin Joshi Detention

Senior Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi held talks with Israeli Ambassador Shmuel Ari Bass about the situation of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, reportedly detained by Hamas, and explored ways to strengthen Nepal-Israel relations including education and agriculture cooperation.

Kathmandu,  — Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi sat down with Israel’s Ambassador to Nepal, Shmuel “Shmulik” Ari Bass, at his home in New Baneshwor on Tuesday. The main topic was Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student who is believed to be held by Hamas. They also talked about the relationship between Nepal and Israel.

Nidhi asked the ambassador to make sure that getting Joshi safely back home is the top priority. He stressed how important it is for Nepal to look out for its people, no matter where they are. Ambassador Bass said they don’t have clear information about Joshi’s condition or location yet, but they are trying hard to find out.

Earn and Learn Program, UN Votes, and Farming Investment Also Discussed

They also talked about the “Earn and Learn” program, which used to help Nepali students learn agriculture skills in Israel. Nidhi said Nepal is ready to bring the program back because it really helps students gain practical experience.

The ambassador mentioned Nepal’s upcoming votes on 18 UN resolutions. He asked Nepal to support Israel if possible, or otherwise to abstain. Nidhi pointed out that Nepal has recognized Israel since 1960 and continues to have good relations. At the same time, Nepal also recognizes Palestine, showing a balanced approach.

They also discussed the possibility of Israeli investment in agriculture in Nepal’s Madhes Province. Nidhi welcomed the idea, saying it could bring useful improvements to farming there. The meeting ended with both sides eager to keep working together and make their partnership stronger.
