CPN-UML Lawmaker Suhang Nembang Demands Suspension of Embossed Number Plate Rollout in Nepal

CPN-UML lawmaker Suhang Nembang has called for halting the rollout of embossed number plates in Nepal, citing lack of infrastructure, technology, and public awareness, and warning it would create additional burdens for citizens.

Kathmandu — CPN-UML lawmaker Suhang Nembang on Wednesday called for the suspension of the ongoing implementation of embossed number plates in vehicles. Speaking during the meeting of the House of Representatives, Nembang urged the government to first ensure adequate infrastructure, technology, and public awareness before moving forward in a phased manner.

“The government should immediately halt the implementation of embossed number plates and only proceed step by step after securing the necessary infrastructure, technology, and public awareness,” he said.

Nembang pointed out that ordinary citizens are already facing multiple challenges, such as paying high taxes while purchasing vehicles, mandatory annual insurance, standing in long queues to pay road tax, and lengthy procedures to obtain driving licenses. He argued that the enforcement of embossed number plates would only add further trouble, inconvenience, and burdens.

He also noted that questions are being raised at the grassroots level about the actual purpose of introducing embossed number plates.
