A violent clash erupted early Friday morning between a group of alleged smugglers and security personnel in Gobarahia, located in Ward No. 2 of Videha Municipality, Dhanusha district. The confrontation left six armed police personnel injured, according to security authorities.
Acting on intelligence received from local sources regarding suspected smuggling activity, a team from the Armed Police Force (APF) was deployed to monitor a motorcycle and the surrounding area. During the investigation, the police located the suspected motorcycle and, upon further inspection, began searching a nearby shed on suspicion that illegal goods were hidden inside.
However, during the ongoing search, a large group of individuals — estimated to be between 100 to 150 in number — suddenly attacked the police using improvised weapons. The attackers reportedly hurled stones and engaged in violent behavior, according to police reports.
As the situation escalated, security personnel responded by firing 13 rounds of tear gas and four rounds of warning shots into the air to bring the crowd under control. Authorities stated that the situation was eventually brought under control and order was restored.
Of the six injured officers, three sustained serious injuries and were immediately transported to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur for treatment. The remaining three officers suffered minor injuries and are reported to be in stable condition.
