Kathmandu — Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Hari Dhakal has accused the ruling coalition of adopting an intolerant and chaotic approach to governance, which he says is undermining Nepal’s democracy.
Speaking during Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Dhakal expressed frustration that his party has been protesting for 95 days, yet the government has shown no willingness to listen.
Dhakal said the ruling alliance has not only disregarded the opposition’s demands but also tried to silence dissent with false accusations. “For more than three months, we have raised our voices, but the government remains indifferent.
Instead of constructive debate, ruling lawmakers waste hours on meaningless arguments and level baseless allegations,” he said. He also alleged that fake voice recordings were being circulated to discredit lawmakers who are pushing for accountability in parliament.
Dhakal stressed that excessive partisanship has weakened Nepal’s democratic system. “Democracy has been pushed into the shadows because of partisanship. That is why it has failed to stand strong,” he remarked, adding that the public is closely watching these developments.
He predicted that in 2084 BS, democracy would regain its strength. He further said that constitutional bodies, currently influenced by partisan interests, will begin to function independently after that period.
According to Dhakal, Nepal’s next political chapter must focus on restoring public trust in democratic institutions. “The people are keeping account of everything. When the time comes, democracy will rise again with the people’s mandate,” he said, signaling that reform and revival are inevitable.
