A tragic case of domestic violence in Rukum West, Nepal, has resulted in the death of a woman, with her husband now in police custody. The incident took place in Tata Gaun, Ward 3 of Chaurjahari Municipality, where 32-year-old Chandrabahadur Budhathoki allegedly killed his wife, 30-year-old Devika Budhathoki, by attacking her with a khukuri—a traditional Nepali curved knife—late at night.
According to the District Police Office, Chandrabahadur struck his wife in the neck during a heated altercation inside their home. Acting on information provided by local residents, a police team led by Inspector Dipendra Rawat from the Area Police Office in Chaurjahari responded swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident.
The police have recovered the weapon used in the attack from the scene. District Police Chief DSP Pramesh Bishst stated that preliminary investigations indicate the fatal attack resulted from a domestic dispute. He added that the couple had a history of frequent arguments, which may have escalated into violence.
The victim’s body has been sent to the District Hospital in Salle for post-mortem examination. Police have launched a deeper investigation into the case, which once again highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence within families.
