As the Rupandehi-3 by-election approaches, candidate Sagar Dhakal has called the contest a historic fight for change. In a social media appeal, Dhakal described the election as a battle between the people and a new ‘Rana regime.’
Dhakal said, “Nepal’s major parties — Congress, UML, and Maoist — are like cats from the same bag. All three have behaved like a new Rana regime. Now, they must be decisively defeated so they cannot return until 2084 BS (2027-28 AD).”
Referring to the 54,176 votes received by Ravi Lamichhane in Chitwan-2 and the 61,767 votes secured by Balen Shah in Kathmandu, Dhakal said he aims to win at least 62,000 votes in Rupandehi-3 to make history. “There are about 90,000 registered voters here. The start of a new era must begin here,” he added.
Frustration Over Delays and Call for Nationwide Change
Dhakal expressed frustration over the delay in the Narayangadh-Butwal road project, the daily struggles of the people, and the ruling two-thirds majority government’s silence toward public suffering.
He warned, “This election is not just about Rupandehi-3, but for the entire country. It is time for the people to win decisively and deliver a clean sweep. This election reflects the pain, anger, and hope of the people.”
Dhakal’s appeal signals a strong challenge to the ruling parties in the upcoming by-election.
