Kathmandu — Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister, Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister, and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising on Saturday inspected the ongoing expansion work of the Araniko Highway.
During his visit to Banepa in Kavre, Minister Ghising reviewed the progress of the highway expansion and received updates on the challenges affecting the project. Banepa Municipality Mayor Shantiratna Shakya briefed the minister on the issues identified in the area, the ongoing work, and the coordination required among concerned agencies.
Local Issues Highlighted by Mayor Shakya
Mayor Shakya said residents of Banepa have been facing difficulties due to traffic congestion in Pul Bazaar and surrounding areas, delays in removing structures, and the relocation of drinking water pipelines and electricity poles. He added that the municipality has been coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure smoother implementation of the project.
Highway Expansion Recognized as a National Priority
Minister Ghising said the expansion of the Araniko Highway is a national priority project and expressed commitment to developing the Banepa section as a model urban area.
“We will immediately address the obstacles seen in the work. Necessary support will be provided at the local level while minimizing the impact on residents,” he said, adding that the ministry will continue to assist the project.
Local Expectations and Government Commitment
Local residents, frustrated by prolonged delays and traffic mismanagement, have expressed hope that the project will gain momentum following the minister’s inspection.
With the latest on-site assessment, there is renewed expectation that the highway expansion work will now move forward more effectively.
