Kathmandu, — A car with Chinese diplomatic plates crashed into a stream in Kathmandu’s Mulpani area on Sunday morning, leaving two women with minor injuries.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. in Ward 6 of Kageshwari Manohara Municipality. According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police, the vehicle — bearing the number plate 11 CD 619 — went off the road and slid into a nearby ravine after the driver lost control.

Inside the car were two Chinese nationals — a mother and her daughter. Both were slightly injured in the crash. Locals and police at the scene quickly stepped in to help and pulled the women safely from the vehicle.

It’s still unclear whether the two are employees of the Chinese Embassy, officials said. After the car was retrieved from the stream, it was handed back to the driver. The women were taken to a local hospital for treatment and were discharged shortly afterward, as their injuries were not serious.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
