Kathmandu — In the midst of Nepal’s shifting political landscape, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Chairman Ashok Rai and Nepal Federal Socialist Party Chairman Mohammad Rizwan Ansari met in Kathmandu on Saturday. The two leaders held discussions on the current national scenario, the turbulence following the dissolution of parliament, the questions raised by the Gen-Z movement, and the possible direction of upcoming elections.
Gen-Z Movement and Constitutional Pathways
According to Chairman Ansari, the talks focused on finding constitutional measures to address the demands raised during the Gen-Z movement and on charting a stable political course for the future. “There was a shared understanding between the parties on how to institutionalize the voices of the younger generation,” Ansari stated.
Exploring Options for Cooperation and Unity
Both leaders prioritized practical cooperation, while also exploring the prospects of forming an alliance or moving toward a full party merger. The preliminary approach, they noted, would be to collaborate on common agendas and later consider formal unification.
Rai and Ansari reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening democratic values, social justice, and an inclusive state structure. They said a new political alignment could play an important role in steering the country toward stability.
Notably, the two leaders share a history of collaboration. They had earlier broken away from the CPN-UML to form the Federal Socialist Party. Later, Rai merged with Upendra Yadav’s Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum Nepal, while Ansari went on to establish a new party of his own. Their renewed dialogue has now reignited debate in Nepali politics about the possibility of a fresh unification.
