Kathmandu — Prabhu Sah, Chairperson of the Janata Party (AJP) and former minister, has called for structural changes to address corruption and misgovernance in Nepal. Speaking at the party’s central committee meeting in Kathmandu on Saturday, Sah said the current political system has failed to meet public expectations.
Criticism of Government Structure and Constitution
Sah argued that provincial and local governments should be dissolved, claiming they have become centers of corruption rather than institutions serving the people. He added that while federalism could still be strengthened, the existing structure has not delivered benefits to citizens.
He said the constitution and current political arrangements are at the root of the crisis. He suggested that a full review, including replacement of the constitution if necessary, should be considered. “Unless corruption, irregularities, and irresponsible leadership are removed, prosperity will remain only a slogan,” he warned.
Views on Gen-Z Movement and Security Concerns
Commenting on the Gen-Z protests, Sah described the youth-led uprising as a positive step. “The youth revolt represents rejection of corruption and partisan exploitation,” he stated. However, he cautioned that attempts were being made to hijack the movement and betray young people’s sentiments, which he called “deeply unfortunate.”
Sah alleged that Parliament, the Supreme Court, and Singha Durbar are facing conspiratorial attacks, demanding a high-level investigation. He also raised concerns over the lack of leadership in the Foreign Affairs and Defense ministries, saying it has weakened security agencies and requires urgent evaluation.
