Madhav Nepal Testifies in Patanjali Land Scam Case at Special Court

Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has finished his statement at the Special Court amid the Patanjali land scam case filed by the CIAA. The bail hearing will proceed shortly.

Kathmandu – Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has completed his statement before the Special Court on Wednesday, following a corruption case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in connection with the Patanjali land scam.

The statement was recorded before a joint bench of Justices Tej Narayan Singh Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Vidur Koirala. According to Nepal’s legal team, the statement concluded before the scheduled tea break, and the bail hearing is expected to begin shortly.

Senior advocates Shambhu Thapa, Gopal Krishna Ghimire, Govinda Bandi, Khamba Bahadur Khati, among others, have registered to argue on behalf of Nepal, totaling around 120 lawyers.  However, since a prolonged bail hearing could result in the former prime minister being kept in judicial custody overnight, only a few selected legal representatives will participate in the argument today.

On behalf of the CIAA, senior advocate Sushil Pant is leading the arguments. He has been appointed by the Commission as a private legal representative. Sources indicate that preparations are underway to conclude the bail hearing within the day.

The CIAA filed the case against former Prime Minister Madhav Nepal at the Special Court on June 5 (Jestha 22) in connection with the Patanjali land scam.
