KATHMANDU — Central member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Dr. Tosima Karki, has voiced concern over attempts to portray her call for party reform as a conspiracy against party chairperson Rabi Lamichhane. She said her intention is to strengthen and modernize the party, not to create internal division.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Dr. Karki wrote, “Please do not weaken my morale by continuously attacking me with false accusations. I have dedicated myself to building and strengthening this party — and I will continue to do so. But differing views on how to make our organization more democratic and contemporary should not be treated as betrayal.”
She said the RSP must grow into a moderate, mainstream political force that upholds democratic values and represents the aspirations of Nepal’s new generation. Dr. Karki emphasized that both organizational and ideological restructuring are needed to ensure the party’s long-term relevance.
Three Key Points of Reform
Dr. Karki presented three main requests for party members ahead of the upcoming RSP extended meeting, scheduled for Kartik 20 and 21 (early November). She urged all leaders and members to attend the meeting with full commitment and take part in discussions on policy and leadership issues.
She said members should not only express their views on political and organizational reports but also have the right to accept, reject, or amend them collectively. Referring to the post–Gen-Z movement political landscape, Dr. Karki said the RSP cannot remain isolated.
The party, she argued, should work together with other alternative forces. “We must be inclusive and ready to create a common platform,” she wrote. “Let us treat reform not as a threat but as an opportunity for renewal.”
Differences Are Not Conspiracies
Dr. Karki clarified that her different opinions should not be viewed as opposition to Chairperson Lamichhane. “Having a different opinion is part of internal dialogue — not an act of rebellion,” she said. “Interpreting internal suggestions as attacks only weakens the entire organization.”
She described reform and institutional strengthening as a continuous process, urging her colleagues to embrace internal democracy as a constructive political culture. Dr. Karki’s message calls for introspection and reform within the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
She said her goal is to make the party more democratic, inclusive, and capable of representing youth, civil society, and liberal thinkers. Her remarks reflect both loyalty and urgency, emphasizing that reform should be understood as progress, not division.
