Texas, USA — Torrential rainfall on Friday triggered catastrophic flooding across the U.S. state of Texas, leaving a trail of destruction and loss. According to local authorities, at least 46 people have been confirmed dead, while 20 teenage girls remain missing. The disaster has severely impacted both residents and emergency services.
Among the deceased are 18 girls and teenagers, along with 28 adults, as confirmed by officials. Search and rescue teams have been working tirelessly, but the whereabouts of the 20 missing girls are still unknown. The missing girls were participants in a summer camp called Camp Mystic, a long-established and highly regarded camp located along the banks of the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, Texas.
For decades, Camp Mystic has been a popular destination among American families, known for empowering young girls through leadership training, self-confidence building, and various personal development activities. This year, the camp hosted around 700 girls.
However, the heavy rainfall on Friday followed by a sudden rise in the river’s water level turned the camp into a crisis zone. According to reports, floodwaters surged rapidly into the camp area, and many girls are feared to have been swept away.
Emergency responders have managed to rescue several individuals. Helicopters, boats, and search dogs have been deployed to intensify the search efforts, with locating the missing girls remaining a top priority. Families of the victims are anxiously awaiting updates, as the entire community reels in shock and grief.
The flooding has also caused significant damage to homes, as well as major roads and bridges in the affected regions, compounding the challenges faced by authorities and rescue teams.
