Supreme Court Pauses Dismissal of Five Madhesh Province Lawmakers

The Supreme Court has temporarily stopped the enforcement of a decision to dismiss five Madhesh Province lawmakers, ordering both parties to appear for further hearings on the case.

The Supreme Court has issued a short-term interim order preventing the immediate enforcement of the decision to dismiss five lawmakers from Madhesh Province. On Monday, a single bench led by Justice Nityananda Pandey paused the decision and called both sides to court to explain why an interim order should not be issued.

Earlier, Madhesh Province Speaker Ramchandra Mandal had declared the seats of the five lawmakers vacant, saying they had missed assembly meetings for ten consecutive days. Those removed from their positions were Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Manish Kumar Suman, Singasan Sah Kalwar, Urmila Devi Singh, and Shankar Prasad Kalwar.

After their positions were declared vacant, the lawmakers went to the Supreme Court, arguing that the Speaker’s move was arbitrary and requesting immediate relief. During the initial hearing, the court ordered that the decision not be implemented for now and directed that the existing situation remain unchanged.

Both sides have now been instructed to appear before the court for further discussions on the show-cause notice and the request for interim relief. The next hearing is expected to determine how the case will proceed.
