Rajkumar Gupta Bribery Scandal Sparks Criticism from Nepali Congress Leader Shekhar Koirala

Minister Rajkumar Gupta faces bribery allegations, triggering strong condemnation from Nepali Congress’s Dr. Shekhar Koirala, who questions the government’s response and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s silence.

Kathmandu – Intense dissatisfaction has erupted within Nepal’s ruling coalition after Federal Affairs and General Administration Minister Rajkumar Gupta was implicated in a bribery scandal. As public concern grows, senior Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has raised serious questions about the government’s integrity.

In a statement shared on social media this morning, Koirala expressed widespread anger toward the ruling establishment. He criticized Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s silence, the government’s indifference to Gupta’s alleged misconduct, and the coalition’s inactivity. “Now even ministerial quarters have become hubs for bribery transactions,” Koirala said. “In the morning, middlemen arrive carrying briefcases, and when evidence surfaces, ministers ironically attend government meetings with dignity.”

Koirala’s main point is that the ruling party is complacently maintaining the status quo, the opposition is merely fulfilling formalities, and even the Nepali Congress remains a passive observer. Gupta is accused of involvement in a 7.8 million rupees bribery case, prompting public demands for investigation. Despite this, Prime Minister Oli remains silent, and Gupta continues to hold his ministerial post. This context frames Koirala’s criticism.

Highlighting the opposition’s failure to act, Koirala added, “We have become silent spectators standing on the sidelines. The courage to speak the truth is gradually fading.”
