Kathmandu — Mohan Bahadur Basnet, the suspended mayor of Nagarjun Municipality, has been found guilty in a money laundering case. A special court bench, led by Judges Teknarayan Kunwar and Rambahadur Thapa, declared Basnet guilty and scheduled sentencing for Ashadh 16 (late June).
Basnet is accused of accepting a bribe of NPR 92,246,032.33 from Rajuprasad Kandel, director and chairman of Padma Colony and Padma Merchant Company Pvt. Ltd. The case was filed on Poush 14, 2081 BS (December 2024).
The court also found Kandel guilty of giving the bribe to acquire land under his company’s name. Basnet’s wife, Urmila Basnet, was acquitted due to lack of evidence linking her to the bribe.
