Kathmandu — Kathmandu Metropolitan City is scheduled to hold its long-delayed executive meeting today. Initiated by Mayor Balen Shah, the meeting is set for 2 PM this afternoon.
Earlier, disputes between Mayor Shah and Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragai had prevented the meeting from taking place. As a result, the city was unable to present its budget within the timeframe required by law.
According to the Local Government Operations Act, all local governments in Nepal must present their annual budgets by the 10th of Asar (late June). However, Kathmandu Metropolitan missed the deadline due to delays in holding the executive meeting.
Now, following an agreement between the mayor and the chief administrative officer, the meeting is set to proceed. According to the mayor’s secretariat, all executive members, including Guragai, have been invited to attend.
Earlier today, the Budget Ceiling Committee met at 11 AM. The committee is chaired by the mayor, with the chief administrative officer serving as member secretary. Following this, the Budget and Program Formulation Committee, led by Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, is also scheduled to meet.
Only after these sessions will the executive meeting begin. The agenda includes discussions on proposals submitted by various departments, a review of the city’s upcoming policies and programs, and a decision on the date for the municipal assembly.
