Home Ministry Seeks Clarification from Police Inspector Anu Lama Over 45-Day Absence

The Home Ministry has directed Inspector Anu Lama to report within seven days after being absent for 45 days. Failure to respond could result in dismissal under Nepal Police regulations.

Kathmandu — The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked Nepal Police Inspector Anu Lama to provide a formal explanation after she remained absent from duty for 45 consecutive days. Lama, who serves at the Bagmati Province Police Office, has been directed to appear within seven days with a satisfactory clarification regarding her absence.

Public Notice and Warning of Action

According to a public notice issued on Friday, Inspector Lama initially took a 10-day leave starting from July 9 (Asar 25). She later extended her leave by another 10 days. However, after her leave expired on July 31 (Saun 16), she failed to report back to duty and did not inform the office about her continued absence.

The ministry stated that attempts were made to locate and contact Lama, but she remained unresponsive. Consequently, the Home Ministry published a public notice to initiate a formal inquiry process. The notice also warned that if Lama fails to appear within seven days and provide a valid explanation, she will face disciplinary action under the existing police regulations.

The notice reads: “If you fail to report and provide a satisfactory explanation within the given time frame, action will be taken under Rule 109 (1)(b) of the Police Regulation 2071, resulting in removal from service without disqualification from future government employment.” Under the regulation, any police officer who remains absent without approved leave for 45 consecutive days can be dismissed from service.

Background and Department Response

Inspector Lama is currently assigned to the Bagmati Province Police Office. Officials said the ministry took the step to ensure discipline and accountability within the police organization.
