Triveni Synthetic Restores Power After Rs 1.5 Million Security Deposit Amid Tariff Dispute

Triveni Synthetic Yarn Industries has resumed electricity supply after depositing Rs 1.5 million as security amid a long-running tariff dispute with the Nepal Electricity Authority.

Triveni Synthetic Yarn Industries, a major manufacturer in the Bara–Parsa Industrial Corridor, has restored its electricity supply after depositing Rs 1.5 million as a security amount to resolve a long-standing dispute over dedicated and trunk line electricity tariffs.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) confirmed that the company’s power line, disconnected since October 20 (Kartik 4), was reconnected on Thursday evening. NEA Executive Director Manoj Silwal said the industry deposited an amount equal to one of the 28 disputed installments as a security deposit.

“We have considered this payment as the first installment. The remaining disputes will be settled through legal procedures,” Silwal said.

Company representatives argued that they have not used electricity in a way that requires payment of any additional tariff, stating that the amount should be treated strictly as a security deposit, not an installment. Earlier, the NEA reported that Triveni Synthetic owed Rs 43.9 million in outstanding electricity bills.

High-Level Agreement to Resolve Dispute

A high-level meeting earlier this week — attended by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal, Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Anil Sinha, Chief Secretary Eknarayan Aryal, and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal — proposed a middle-ground solution to resolve the dedicated and trunk line dues dispute.

According to the agreement, industries could restore power by depositing a small portion of the disputed amount as a security deposit, while the remaining issues would be resolved through judicial and administrative channels.

Following that understanding, Triveni Synthetic deposited the agreed amount and successfully reconnected its electricity line, the company confirmed.
