CPN-UML Prepares for Second Statute Convention with Focus on Statute Amendments

CPN-UML is set to organize its second Statute Convention in September 2025, where major proposals on party leadership, organizational structure, and statute amendments will be discussed.

Kathmandu,  — The CPN-UML is moving full speed ahead with preparations for its second Statute Convention, scheduled from September 5 to 7, 2025 (Bhadra 20–22). The three-day gathering is expected to focus on key issues around leadership, internal structure, and party policy.

Taking place at the Sunrise International Convention Center in Godavari, Lalitpur, the event will feature four main documents: a political report, an organizational review, a statute amendment proposal, and reports from the party’s central bodies.

Party Chair and current Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will present the political report. Vice-Chair and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel is set to introduce the statute amendment proposal. General Secretary Shankar Pokharel will present the organizational report, offering insights into the party’s structure, expansion efforts, and internal operations.

Also on the agenda are institutional reports from key party bodies. These will be presented by Keshav Badal (Disciplinary Commission), Dr. Pushpa Kandel (Audit Commission), Dr. Bijay Subba (Election Commission), and Amrit Kumar Bohara (Advisory Council).

Statute Amendment Draft Nearing Final Form

One of the major highlights of this convention is the statute amendment proposal. It has already been reviewed by the party’s Secretariat, Politburo, and Central Committee. Now, it’s been sent out to subordinate committees across the country for feedback. Based on the responses, a team led by Vice-Chair Paudel will finalize the draft before it’s officially presented at the convention.

Publicity Team Mobilized for Event Coverage

To manage media and outreach, the UML has formed a dedicated publicity subcommittee. It’s headed by Standing Committee Member and Chief of the Central Publicity Department, Rajendra Gautam. The team includes Ganesh Basnet, Ganesh Pandey, Sridhar Acharya, Chetan Adhikari, Deepak Gyawali, and Bishwamani Subedi.
