Kathmandu — The CPN-UML Secretariat will meet at the party’s central office in Chyasal on Thursday at 3:00 PM, with preparations underway for the upcoming statute convention.
The convention, beginning Friday at the Sunrise Hall in Godawari, Lalitpur, will discuss political and organizational reports, proposals for statute amendments, and reports from central commissions including election, accounts, and finance. These reports will be debated and endorsed during the session.
Plans to finalize the documents through a Central Committee meeting had been made earlier, but the meeting was postponed due to time constraints.
Thursday’s meeting will also consider internal dissent. Vice Chairs Surendra Pandey and Yuvaraj Gyawali, along with Standing Committee member Karna Thapa, expressed disagreement with the decision to block former President Bidya Devi Bhandari from rejoining the party.
General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said the dissent was about the decision itself, not the documents. “Two vice chairs argued that former President Bhandari should not be barred from renewing her membership. That issue is a matter of decision-making, not document content,” he said on Wednesday.
He added that whether the dissent will be discussed at the statute convention or the national convention will be decided by the Secretariat. Party statutes, he noted, allow deliberation on decisions at various levels, including national conventions.
