Two Parliamentary Committees to Discuss Bhotekoshi Flood and Fiscal Federalism Today

Nepal’s parliamentary committees on Public Policy and Federalism convene today to review recent flood disaster management and progress on fiscal federalism as per the latest budget for 2081/82.

Kathmandu — Two separate committees under the House of Representatives are scheduled to hold important meetings today, focusing on recent developments and the status of policy implementation. The meetings aim to address pressing issues with a particular emphasis on disaster response and fiscal federalism.

The Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee will convene at 11:30 AM to discuss the devastating flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River area on Asar 24 (July 8). The meeting will examine disaster management measures in response to the flood and assess the effectiveness of current mechanisms.

Additionally, the committee will review key government commitments and assurances outlined in the recently announced policy and program statements and the budget speech for the fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25).

Simultaneously, the Committee on Strengthening Federalism and National Concerns will also meet to deliberate on the implementation of fiscal federalism. The session will evaluate the work carried out so far by the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission, as well as its recommendations and the current state of their execution.

Both meetings are expected to bring critical insights into the government’s direction, decision-making processes, and how effectively those decisions are being put into action. The discussions are also likely to generate necessary recommendations and guidance for the relevant ministries.
