Kathmandu — Three individuals previously listed as fugitives in connection with a royalist protest in Kathmandu’s Tinkune area appeared before the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday. Of the three, one has been remanded in judicial custody while the other two have been granted bail.
The bench of Judge Bal Krishna Waglé ordered that Satish Nyaupane be held in custody. Following the order, Nyaupane was transferred to Dillibazar Prison. The two other defendants, Binayjan Thapa and Rajendra Jisi, were released after each posted bail of NPR 15,000.
The case stems from a demonstration held on Chaitra 15 (late March), during which public security was reportedly disrupted. The Office of the District Government Attorney, Kathmandu, subsequently initiated an investigation and filed formal charges on Jestha 11 (late May).
A total of 61 individuals have been charged in the Kathmandu District Court, with four minors facing separate proceedings in the Juvenile Court. Eleven individuals were initially listed as fugitives, three of whom appeared in court on Wednesday.
The defendants face multiple charges, including crimes against the state, criminal rioting, attempted homicide, manslaughter, and organized crime—offenses categorized as serious under Nepalese law.
According to police sources, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fugitives. Authorities are expected to expedite judicial proceedings, given the gravity of the charges.
