Kathmandu – A team from the Nepal Teachers’ Federation reached out to CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Monday morning at his residence in Khumaltar. During the meeting, the delegation expressed deep concern that despite multiple agreements between the government and teachers, those commitments have yet to materialize in practice. According to the Federation, repeated assurances without implementation have left the education sector in a state of ongoing uncertainty.
The visiting members pointed out the lack of focus on education in national policy discussions and criticized the government’s indifferent attitude toward the longstanding demands of educators. They urged the opposition leader to take these concerns seriously and raise the issue with appropriate urgency at the political level.
Prachanda Stresses Teacher Respect, Promises Political Backing
Chairman Prachanda, acknowledging the frustrations of the teachers, emphasized that respect for educators is directly tied to the nation’s future. He called for unified political responsibility to bring about lasting stability in the education sector. “Teaching is more than just a job—it’s the backbone of nation-building,” he stated. “The state must not delay in addressing teachers’ rightful concerns.”
He assured the delegation of clear and committed support from his party, the Maoist Centre, on matters affecting teachers. Prachanda also underlined the need to integrate Early Childhood Development (ECD) classes into the formal school framework to build a stronger educational foundation from the ground up.
The Federation urged that decisions made on paper must not remain symbolic. They insisted that practical steps are needed to restore hope within the teaching community. “Ending the uncertainty in the education system is not optional—it’s essential,” the teachers stressed, demanding firm and future-focused policymaking to guide education reform in Nepal.
