A hearing has been scheduled on the habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Durga Prasai, the coordinator of the “Campaign to Protect the Nation, Nationalism, Religion, Culture, and Citizens.”
The Supreme Court has listed the case for Sunday, and it will be heard by a joint bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Shrikant Paudel. Earlier on Thursday, a bench led by Justice Meghraj Pokharel ordered authorities to present Prasai before the court within 24 hours and explain the basis for his arrest.
The petition was filed on Wednesday by Prasai’s son, Nirajan. In the filing, he named the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, the Kathmandu District Administration Office, the Chief District Officer, and the Kathmandu District Police Range, among others, as defendants.
Police arrested Durga Prasai from his residence in Bhaktapur around midnight on Monday, citing statements he had recently made. His bodyguard, Deepak Khadka, was also taken into custody.
