Kathmandu — A deadly explosion rocked the Naugam police post in Srinagar on Friday night, killing nine people and injuring 29 others, most of them police personnel. The blast has heightened tension in the area and prompted an urgent investigation.
Officials said the explosion occurred while officers were examining explosive materials that had been seized earlier. The blast went off as samples were being collected, but authorities say they are still trying to determine the exact nature and quantity of the explosive substance involved.
The materials had been recovered from a rented house linked to Dr. Muzammil Ganai, who was arrested in Haryana’s Faridabad. Ganai is already an accused in a separate Delhi blast case, and the confiscated explosives had been transferred to the Naugam police post for analysis.
Security agencies have launched a detailed probe to find out whether the blast resulted from accidental handling or other factors. Additional forces have been deployed in the area as investigations move forward.
