Youth Association Nepal, the youth wing of the CPN–UML, had scheduled a “Jagarana Sabha” in Parwanipur, Bara, today. However, the leaders heading to the event were stopped at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Tensions escalated in the Simara airport area after clashes broke out between Gen-Z youths and UML-aligned youths. As a result, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and other leaders were unable to board their flight to Simara.
General Secretary Pokharel, Chief of Mass Organizations Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, and Politburo member Mahesh Basnet were supposed to travel to Simara to take part in the program. “We are still here at Kathmandu airport.
We heard that our supporters and the Gen-Z group clashed in Simara, and because of that, the flight to Simara hasn’t taken off,” Mahesh Basnet told . “The administration has already imposed a curfew.
In a democracy, peaceful programs should be allowed, but under the name of Gen-Z, the Maoists, the government, and Madhes-based parties have all joined together to stop UML.” According to Basnet, Youth Association in-charge Rajiv Pahari, President Kshitiz Thebe, Vice-President Maharaj Gurung, and other leaders are already in Parwanipur and trying to carry out the scheduled event.
He said that if the program cannot be held, they will hold a press conference to share their position. During the incident, angry youths vandalized the main gate of Simara Airport.
