Biratnagar,— Senior Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has strongly criticized the current coalition government, accusing it of failing to win the trust of the people. Speaking at a special felicitation program in Biratnagar on Sunday, Dr. Koirala said the lack of transparency, accountability, and responsibility in governance has prevented citizens from experiencing good governance.
“Even this coalition government formed by major political parties has been unable to meet public expectations,” said Dr. Koirala. He emphasized that weak coordination among the executive, legislative, and judiciary has pushed the democratic system into a vulnerable state.
Dr. Koirala also warned that the deteriorating state of governance could soon necessitate another popular movement to safeguard democracy.
According to him, the country’s electoral system has repeatedly led to the formation of coalition governments, which, while necessary under current circumstances, should not compel political parties to compromise on their core ideologies.
The event, organized by the Guras Library, honored individuals who have made notable contributions to society and politics. Hari Sapkota was honored with a cash prize of NPR 21,000 for his active involvement in politics, while social worker Alim Ansari received NPR 11,000 for his contributions to social service.
Likewise, in recognition of her contributions in the academic and intellectual field, Dr. Pramila Gachchhadar was presented with a certificate of honor, handed over personally by Dr. Koirala.
