RSP’s Signature Drive for Rabi Lamichhane Tops 2.5 Million

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has collected over 2.5 million signatures in support of its president, Rabi Lamichhane. The party claims his detention in a cooperative fraud case is politically driven and is expanding the campaign nationwide.

Kathmandu — The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has reported significant public participation in its ongoing signature campaign launched in support of its president, Rabi Lamichhane. More than 2.5 million signatures have been collected to date from within Nepal and abroad, according to party officials.

The update was shared during a press conference held at the party’s central office in Banasthali on Thursday, where details regarding the campaign’s progress and expenditures were disclosed.

Campaign Responds to Detention of Rabi Lamichhane

The RSP launched the campaign on June 21 (Asar 7) to protest what it claims is the politically motivated and prejudiced detention of Lamichhane in connection with a cooperative fraud case.

“This is the voice of the people for justice,” said campaign coordinator Deepak Bohora. “We have received over 2,457,000 signatures from all seven provinces and two major centers, and signatures from abroad continue to come in.”

To expand the campaign, the party plans to launch a door-to-door outreach program at the ward level starting July 21 (Shrawan 5), Bohora said. “We are taking the people’s voice directly to their homes,” he added.

According to the party, 500,000 appeal letters and 200,000 signature forms have already been distributed on behalf of Lamichhane. The campaign has incurred a total expenditure of NPR 5.968 million (approximately USD 45,000), with party officials emphasizing financial transparency. “Our expenses are transparent, and this campaign is progressing with the support and trust of the people,” said Bohora.

The RSP considers the signature drive not only a demonstration of public support but also a symbolic stand against what it views as state-led injustice.
