Judicial Commission to Record RSP Chief Rabi Lamichhane’s Statement in Gen Z Protest Investigation

The judicial commission investigating the Gen Z protest will question RSP Chief Rabi Lamichhane today at Nakkhu Prison. The panel, chaired by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, has already recorded statements from prison and police officials.

Kathmandu — The High-Level Judicial Inquiry Commission formed to investigate incidents related to the Gen Z protests is preparing to record a statement from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane. According to sources, the commission, led by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, is expected to take Lamichhane’s statement today at Nakkhu Prison.

Commission Prepares to Question Lamichhane

Lamichhane is currently in judicial custody at Nakkhu Prison in connection with a cooperative savings fund misappropriation case. The commission has already recorded statements from Prison Chief Satyaraj Joshi and security personnel from both Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force who were deployed at the facility. Following these statements, the commission decided to take Lamichhane’s testimony as part of its ongoing investigation, a source confirmed.

According to the commission, Prison Chief Joshi stated that the prison administration did not issue any official letter authorizing Lamichhane’s release on the day of the incident. He claimed that Lamichhane’s supporters had allegedly fabricated a letter and even threatened him. The commission has been gathering further details regarding these sensitive claims.

Lamichhane’s Version of Events

On the day of the Gen Z movement, September 9 (Bhadra 24), Lamichhane was seen leaving the prison premises. Shortly after, he released a video message on social media asserting that the prison administration had forcibly sent him out amid growing crowds outside the gate.

“The prison authorities forced me out because of the crowd. I had refused to leave without official authorization, but they insisted,” Lamichhane said in his message.

However, preliminary findings by the commission indicate that no formal release document was issued by the prison administration. To clarify the full sequence of events, the commission has now decided to record a detailed statement from Lamichhane.
