Surkhet — Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka has alleged that the recent Gen-Z movement was not a spontaneous protest but the result of a larger conspiracy.
Addressing reporters in Birendranagar, Khadka said the scale of violence and destruction showed that organized groups had deliberately pushed the demonstrations toward chaos. “In just four hours, key state institutions across the country were pushed to the brink of collapse — this cannot be the outcome of a simple protest,” he stated.
He condemned the attacks on Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Central Committee member Dr. Arzu Deuba, along with arson and vandalism at more than 50 district offices of the party. According to him, the targeting of leaders’ private residences was a “serious blow to democratic values.”
Khadka also highlighted the burning of Ganeshman Singh’s historic Chaksibari residence and the destruction of the Koirala family home, calling them an assault on Nepal’s political heritage.
He further noted that the unrest had caused major economic damage. “Industrial entrepreneurs have suffered billions in losses, while thousands of people were mobilized with the intention of creating widespread destruction and destabilizing the country,” he alleged.
Call for Investigation and Political Unity
Khadka urged the government to set up an independent commission to investigate those involved and ensure accountability. He also appealed to political leaders to avoid inflammatory remarks and to help maintain calm in society.
He added that the Nepali Congress will convene its Central Working Committee meeting after the Dashain festival to decide on the party’s next steps.
