Kathmandu — CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has urged former party leader Janardan Sharma to reconsider his decision to leave and return to the party’s unity process by Wednesday.
Speaking at the final meeting of the party’s General Convention Organizing Committee on Tuesday, Prachanda said he wanted to move forward together with Sharma and other colleagues who had recently stepped away from the party.
According to senior leader Agni Prasad Sapkota, Prachanda told the meeting, “Janardanji, please come back. We should walk this path together.” Sapkota added that the party leadership is focused on unity rather than division.
Prachanda also expressed confidence that Bhim Rawal, who was expelled from the UML and is currently leading a separate campaign, would eventually join the unity process. He further said that dialogue is ongoing with dissident CPN (Unified Socialist) leaders, including Jhalanath Khanal and Ghanashyam Bhusal.
He appealed to all democratic and patriotic forces to come together for a common cause. “Talks are under way with Bhim Rawal, Jhalanath Khanal, and Ghanashyam Bhusal,” Sapkota quoted Prachanda as saying.
However, both Khanal and Bhusal have already made it clear that they will not take part in the unity process.
The meeting also formally endorsed the agreement reached with eight political parties, including the Unified Socialist. Spokesperson Sapkota said the decision marks a new chapter in Nepal’s communist movement and that the unified party aims to emerge as the main force in the country’s leftist politics.
