Prachanda Accused of Leading Efforts to Destabilize Nepal’s Ruling Coalition: UML’s Mahaseth

Raghubir Mahaseth claims that Maoist Centre Chair Prachanda is actively working to break Nepal’s ruling coalition, with backing from both domestic and foreign players.

CPN-UML Secretary Raghubir Mahaseth has accused CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ of playing an active role in efforts to dismantle Nepal’s current ruling coalition.

Speaking at a public event in Janakpur on Sunday, Mahaseth claimed that both domestic and international forces are working to weaken the coalition, with Prachanda himself allegedly leading the initiative.

“There has been a deliberate attempt to destabilize this government for some time now. And it appears that Prachandaji is at the forefront of this effort,” Mahaseth alleged. “He is being supported by some independent lawmakers, smaller parties, as well as the Rastriya Swatantra Party.”

According to Mahaseth, certain members within the ruling coalition itself are dissatisfied and have been actively working against the alliance. He particularly pointed to some proportional representation lawmakers from Madhes Province, claiming they are involved in anti-coalition activities with backing from foreign powers.

Deuba-Oli Coordination Credited for Government Stability

Despite these developments, Mahaseth emphasized that the current government has not yet reached a critical or unstable stage. He credited the ongoing coordination between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli for maintaining political stability.

“The government continues to function through the mutual understanding and cooperation between Deubaji and Oliji,” he stated. “Their coordination has been the backbone of the coalition’s strength so far.”

Mahaseth further argued that the current ruling alliance remains the only practical and viable governing alternative for the country, adding that other possible configurations are still unclear or unconvincing.
