Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Departs for Spain to Attend UN Financing for Development Conference

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is leading a high-level Nepali delegation to Spain to attend the United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD-4). The conference aims to strengthen global development finance and support for developing countries, with Nepal advocating for the implementation of financial commitments by developed nations.

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is departing for Spain this Saturday evening to attend a major international summit under the United Nations. Leading a high-level delegation, he will travel via Doha, Qatar, en route to Seville, Spain.

This official visit comes at the invitation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The event, titled the International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD-4), focuses on global development finance.

Nepal’s Role in Global Development Finance

The conference, scheduled from June 30 to July 3 in Seville, will gather world leaders, financial institutions, business groups, civil society, and UN agencies. It aims to highlight the challenges and opportunities for least developed countries (LDCs), small island states, and developing nations.

Nepal will advocate for stronger international support and emphasize the need for implementing prior commitments made by developed nations. Prime Minister Oli is expected to address the summit with a focus on sustainable financial cooperation.

During his stay, Prime Minister Oli will meet with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and pay a courtesy call to King Felipe VI. He will also hold sideline discussions with leaders from various countries, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Delegation Members from Nepal

The 29-member Nepali delegation includes 21 officials from Kathmandu and 8 from Spain and New York. Key members include First Lady Radhika Shakya, Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Finance Secretary Ghanashyam Upadhyay, and senior government officials. Also included are Nepal’s Ambassador to Spain Shanil Nepal and Permanent Representative to the UN Lok Bahadur Thapa.

The government expects this high-level visit to boost Nepal’s international profile, attract foreign investment, and promote tourism from Spain and other European countries.Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to return to Nepal on Friday, July 4, at 4:45 PM, after completing the conference.
