Pampha Bhusal Urges Songs to Reflect Nepal’s Democratic Transformation

CPN (Maoist Centre) Vice-Chairperson Pampha Bhusal has stressed that festivals like Teej should not remain limited to tradition but also promote Nepal’s democratic achievements and social progress through songs, art, and cultural expression.

Kathmandu – CPN (Maoist Centre) Vice-Chairperson Pampha Bhusal has emphasized the need for new songs and cultural expressions that align with Nepal’s ongoing social and political transformation. Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Sunday, she said music and festivals should not only celebrate traditions but also convey messages of change and rights.

Bhusal highlighted that Teej, which is widely observed across communities, has evolved into more than a traditional women’s festival. According to her, the occasion now offers an opportunity to reflect on Nepal’s democratic journey, the rights secured after the end of absolute monarchy, and the path ahead toward a socialist-oriented system.

“People should be reminded through songs and art about what authoritarian rule was like and what we have achieved under inclusive democracy. Citizens need to clearly understand the fundamental rights they enjoy today,” Bhusal remarked.

She further stressed that cultural platforms must be used to pass on the achievements of change to the younger generation, particularly students, while also mobilizing society to push for greater equality and justice.

Bhusal added that Teej has become a celebration embraced by all communities, making it an appropriate medium to spread progressive ideas and strengthen democratic values.
