Kathmandu — Injured Victim Demands Justice Against Nepali Congress Leader Mohammad Aftab Alam, Acquitted in Rautahat Bombing Case
Victim Seriously Injured in Rautahat Bomb Blast
Gaurishankar Ram Chamar, an Indian citizen from Bihar seriously injured in the notorious Rautahat bomb blast, has called for justice in Kathmandu against Nepali Congress leader Mohammad Aftab Alam, who was recently acquitted by the court.
The bomb exploded on the eve of the 2007 Constituent Assembly elections at Alam’s brick kiln in Rajpur Farhadwa, seriously injuring Gaurishankar. Speaking at a press conference at the Reporters Club on Sunday, he said, “The bomb blew off both my ears, burned my face, neck, and chest. I was hospitalized for three months. I spent 350,000 Indian Rupees on treatment, but Aftab did not give a single penny or even inquire once.”
According to Gaurishankar, when he went to Alam’s house to ask for compensation, bomb-making was underway there. He recalled that the bomb exploded as soon as he reached the door, burning him severely. He was then taken to India for treatment.
Court Acquits Alam Despite Victim’s Suffering
Alam has been accused of orchestrating the bomb blast that injured victims and burning dead bodies in the brick kiln. However, the Birgunj High Court recently acquitted him, citing lack of evidence. Despite this, Gaurishankar’s suffering contradicts the court’s verdict.
Tears in his eyes, Gaurishankar said, “The court’s claim that the bomb did not explode is wrong. I saw the bomb explode with my own eyes and suffered burns.” He also claimed threats from Aftab’s associates and demanded security. “A person like him has been released, and I’m scared now. I don’t know if I will live or die.”
Gaurishankar stated that acquitting the accused without hearing other victims’ voices is unjust. He urged the government to take strict action, saying, “Whatever the court did, it’s done. Now the government should ensure justice.” Other injured victims reportedly share similar grievances.
This report is based on the authentic testimony of a real victim. As calls for a final resolution grow, the government is expected to take responsibility for impartial investigation and ensure appropriate justice.
