Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has strengthened Nepal’s international standing through active leadership at the UN’s Financing for Development conference in Spain, pushing for support to Least Developed Countries and highlighting Nepal’s development progress.

Nepal’s international standing has been further elevated following Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recent official visit to Spain, where he attended the Fourth International Conference on “Financing for Development,” organized by the United Nations in Seville.

The Nepali delegation, led by Prime Minister Oli, actively participated in the conference, leaving a positive mark on the global platform. Addressing Nepal’s House of Representatives on Monday, the prime minister highlighted the visit’s outcomes, stating that it opened up new avenues for economic diplomacy and forged partnerships expected to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Representing the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Prime Minister Oli played a key leadership role, strongly advocating for their equitable economic and social development. He expressed optimism that effective implementation of the commitments made at the Seville conference would pave the way for greater global support for LDCs.

The prime minister reiterated Nepal’s aim to graduate from the LDC category to a developing country by 2026, underlining the country’s steady progress.

Oli also emphasized that Nepal demonstrated effective leadership among the 44 LDCs present at the conference. According to him, the visit strengthened Nepal’s relations with the United Nations and reinforced its advocacy for the interests of LDCs.

On the eve of the conference, Prime Minister Oli engaged in discussions with members of civil society, urging them to enhance the role of a strong and accountable civic community.

Prime Minister Oli departed for Spain on June 28 and returned to Nepal on July 4.
