Kathmandu – Multiple meetings under Nepal’s Federal Parliament are scheduled for today, where various parliamentary committees will engage in in-depth discussions on important policy and legislative matters. A total of seven committees are set to convene, each focusing on subjects within their jurisdiction.
Focus on Finance, Legal Reforms, and Market Regulation
The Finance Committee will meet at 1:00 PM, with the session divided into two parts. The first part will feature direct interaction with proposers of amendments to the Bank and Financial Institutions Act, 2073, indicating a serious effort toward legislative reform. In the second part, the committee will hold discussions with the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) and the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) regarding the current status and challenges facing the capital market.
Similarly, the Industry, Commerce, Labour, and Consumer Welfare Committee will meet at 1:00 PM. This session will focus on the quality, availability, and distribution of iodized salt, an essential commodity for Nepali households. Relevant stakeholders will participate in the discussion.
The Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee will also meet at 1:00 PM to deliberate on the Nepal Bar Council (Second Amendment) Bill, 2081. Representatives from the Nepal Bar Council will join the session to clarify specific provisions of the proposed legislation.
The Public Accounts Committee is scheduled to convene at the same time. The agenda includes a discussion on the 23rd Annual Report submitted by the Office of the Auditor General, with plans to approve the report as part of the parliamentary process.
Disaster Management and Scientific Legislation on the Agenda
The Legislation Management Committee will also meet at 1:00 PM. The focus of this meeting will be a clause-wise discussion on the National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill, 2081, aiming to address both operational and technical aspects.
Earlier in the day, at 11:30 AM, the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee will meet to discuss the impacts of recent flood-related damage, as well as ongoing efforts in rescue, relief, and long-term rehabilitation.
These meetings are expected to contribute significantly to Nepal’s policy-making process, addressing critical issues tied to public welfare, economic regulation, legal reform, and disaster response. The active involvement of parliamentary committees reflects a vital step in strengthening the nation’s legislative system.
