Nepal’s House of Representatives Dissolved on PM Sushila Karki’s Recommendation, Election Set for March 5

President Ram Chandra Paudel dissolved Nepal’s House of Representatives on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki, setting elections for March 5.

Kathmandu — Nepal’s political course has once again taken a decisive turn. Newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki, immediately after assuming office, recommended the dissolution of the House of Representatives, a move endorsed by President Ram Chandra Paudel.

The Office of the President announced on Friday night that the decision took effect from 11 p.m. the same day. Along with the dissolution, the President also declared that fresh elections will be held on March 5 (Falgun 21).

Karki has been given charge of an interim government with the mandate to conduct elections within six months. Her first action after taking the oath was to recommend dissolving Parliament, a step that has set the nation’s political direction toward new polls.

Observers note that the dissolution and the election announcement are aimed at addressing the political vacuum created after recent protests. Public attention now turns to how this decision will influence Nepal’s political stability and democratic process in the coming months.
