Kathmandu — Nepal’s transportation system is entering a new era. Speaking at the inauguration of the electric bus service in the capital, renowned comedian and social commentator Madan Krishna Shrestha expressed his views on the significant changes the country has witnessed in recent years.
Reflecting on his experiences, Shrestha said, “There was a time when I couldn’t even imagine reaching Jomsom by motor vehicle, but recently, I traveled there by motor.” He highlighted the rapid development of Nepal’s physical infrastructure. According to him, since the advent of democracy, road networks have expanded to reach even the remotest villages, and electric lighting has illuminated many distant settlements.
Expressing support for the launch of the electric bus service, Shrestha emphasized the positive impact of running transportation on electricity in terms of saving foreign currency otherwise spent on petroleum products. “Now, we must make the best use of our internal resources such as air, water, and electricity,” he said. “These are the keys to unlocking the country’s prosperity.”
In Shrestha’s view, it is not only technological and infrastructural development but also the maturity in mindset that is steering the country in a new direction. Indicating that Nepal has taken firm steps toward the electric era, he urged that initiatives like the electric bus service be further strengthened and expanded.
