Traffic on the Narayanghat-Butwal highway in Eastern Nawalparasi has completely stopped following the collapse of a diversion at Vinayi Khola. The diversion at Vinayi Khola, located in Triveni Rural Municipality-1, Eastern Nawalparasi, was washed away by floods and landslides, making the main road impassable.
According to DSP Madhu Nepal, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Eastern Nawalparasi, after the main road was blocked, an alternative route via Hongsi Gate, Sardhi, and Jamire highway was opened for vehicles.
However, at around 7:30 a.m. on Monday, heavy rainfall caused the water level of Kharange Khola in Triveni Rural Municipality-3 to rise sharply, making the alternative route unusable as well.
As water levels increased, vehicles were held at safe locations to prevent accidents, DSP Nepal said. The road closure has severely disrupted daily transportation, affecting locals and travelers. Authorities are monitoring the situation and expect traffic to resume once water levels recede.
