Kathmandu — Amid ongoing government efforts to draft a new directive on the import, production, and installation of vehicles, a coordinated discussion was held between the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal and the Department of Transport Management.
A delegation led by NADA President Karan Chaudhary met with Director General of the Department, Rajiv Pokhrel, on Tuesday. The meeting involved detailed discussions on various aspects of the proposed directive.
President Chaudhary expressed concern about the preliminary draft of Directive 2082 and commended the department’s initiative. He highlighted the need for open dialogue between the public and private sectors to bring greater policy clarity.
NADA Vice President Rajan Babu Shrestha suggested that some proposed provisions should be made more practical and industry-friendly. “The directive must reflect ground realities, and continued discussions are essential,” he said.
Government Vows Clarity and Collaboration
General Secretary Surendra Kumar Upreti emphasized that the government should encourage honest businesses and take action against those who violate the rules.
Director General Pokhrel acknowledged that the absence of clear regulations in Nepal’s vehicle import system has led to challenges. He affirmed that the department is committed to establishing regulatory clarity and pledged to move the policy framework forward in collaboration with NADA.
