KATHMANDU — Lekhnath Dahal (Rajan), a member of the Maoist Centre’s General Convention Organizing Committee, has publicly questioned Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav,’ General Secretary of the proposed Communist Party of Nepal, over his decision to register a new party with the Election Commission.
Dahal demanded clarity on Biplav’s political intentions, ideological direction, and responsibility toward leaders, cadres, and citizens. On Tuesday, after Biplav filed for registration of the Communist Party of Nepal, Dahal expressed concern on social media, writing, “If the ultimate goal was to walk this same path, why divide a united and trusted organization? Why fragment the psychology of leaders, cadres, and the people?”
Dispute Over Party Name and Leadership Role
Dahal said discussions were ongoing between both sides regarding the party’s name and election symbol when the Biplav faction abruptly filed the registration request. “Why register the same name still under discussion? Who proposed it, and on what grounds?” Dahal asked.
He also questioned Biplav’s reported demand for the chairmanship during unity negotiations. “What contribution in the past 13 years justifies demanding the top position? When socialist alliance parties are moving toward unity, why attempt to form a separate power center again?” he said.
Questions About Past Violence
Dahal also questioned Biplav over past violent incidents targeting senior Maoist leaders, including Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda.’ “Why resort to planting bombs against former comrades? And now, when you speak of unity, how do you justify those actions?” he stated.
Alleged Secret Talks With UML and Monarchists
Rajan accused Biplav of holding undisclosed meetings with CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and royalist groups while unity talks with socialist allies were still ongoing. “Why initiate secret dialogue with UML and monarchists while discussions with ideologically aligned parties were in progress?” he asked.
Dahal’s remarks have reignited debate within Nepal’s leftist movement, underscoring ongoing mistrust, ideological divides, and leadership disputes. The Biplav-led faction has not yet issued an official response.
