Madhav Kumar Nepal Warns of Deepening Crisis in UML

Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has raised serious concerns over the internal crisis within the ruling UML. He accused the party of embracing right-wing opportunism and criticized the government as disconnected from the people, lacking direction, and promoting misgovernance.

KATHMANDU, — Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has expressed deep concern about the internal situation of the ruling CPN-UML, pointing to what he described as a worsening political crisis within the party.

Speaking at an event held at the party’s headquarters in Aloknagar, Kathmandu, on Friday, Nepal stated, “A party once recognized as the principal communist force in the political landscape, the UML is now gripped by a serious crisis.” He cited increasing internal contradictions, growing individualism, and inappropriate practices as factors that have destabilized the party’s future.

Nepal Criticizes Government Policies and Governance

Nepal accused the UML leadership of embracing “right-wing opportunism” in the pursuit of power. He emphasized that his concern stems not from personal resentment, but from what he sees as a serious ideological deviation. “I do not wish to intrude into their internal matters,” he added, “but the prevailing trends must be confronted—this has become an urgent necessity.”

He also criticized the current government, labeling it as disconnected from public sentiment, lacking clear policy direction, and acting against the interests of the people. “The government has failed to understand the will of the people,” he said. “Its policies and programs are not people-oriented. The government appears completely insensitive to the problems citizens are facing.”

Calling the administration a promoter of misgovernance rather than good governance, Nepal declared, “This government is heading toward a certain downfall. We just have to wait—change is inevitable.”

Addressing his own ideological clarity and political integrity, Nepal affirmed that he has never supported any form of wrongdoing. “I have never been involved in corruption. Let anyone bring evidence—I am ready to make any sacrifice if proven guilty,” he stated.

Describing himself as someone who respects political norms, rules, and due process, Nepal added, “I have never strayed from good political conduct, nor have I been driven by a desire for revenge.”
