Dang, — Heavy rain has caused a big landslide that completely blocked the Rapti Highway between Dang and Salyan districts. The road has been shut since early this morning after soil from the hillside gave way near the district border.
According to Tankeshwar Bhattarai, the chief of Kapurkot Police Post, the landslide happened in Ward No. 3 of Kapurkot Rural Municipality due to the continuous rain loosening the ground. Because of this, no vehicles can pass through.
Authorities and road crews are working hard to clear the debris and reopen the road, but the ongoing rain is making their job tough. This road is a major route connecting Dang and Salyan and also links other parts of Nepal’s Midwestern region. With the highway blocked, travelers are being advised to use alternative routes or postpone their trips if possible.
Local officials have also urged everyone to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel until the road is safe to use again. People living nearby say landslides like this happen every year during the monsoon. “This happens every rainy season because the road isn’t strong enough to handle the weather,” said one local resident.
The cleanup teams are continuing their work despite the rain, but it looks like the road will remain closed until the weather improves.
