Kathmandu — A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall has completely blocked the Kaligandaki Corridor road section in Gulmi district. The incident occurred at Baralba in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality–6 on Monday afternoon, burying the road under a large amount of rock and debris.

Efforts to Reopen the Road Hampered by Continuous Landslides

According to local authorities, immediate efforts were made to clear the road following the landslide. However, continuous rockfall and unstable terrain have hampered road clearance operations.
Chairperson of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, Bed Bahadur Thapa, stated, “We worked throughout the night to reopen the road, but ongoing landslides have made it too dangerous to proceed.”

In response to the disruption, the District Police Office deployed a team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Dev Bahadur Bhujel from the Bhurtung Police Post to the affected area. The deployment was confirmed by Superintendent of Police Narayan Prasad Adhikari.

Travelers Face Delays; Authorities Recommend Alternative Route

With the main road impassable, travelers have been advised to take an alternative route through Parbat district. However, this detour poses additional challenges, particularly for long-distance commuters heading toward Baglung, Parbat, and Pokhara. Many have reported delays and inconvenience due to increased travel time and congestion on the alternate route.

Authorities have also urged residents and travelers to remain cautious, especially with further rainfall expected in the region. The risk of additional landslides remains high, and officials estimate that road clearance may take several more days.
