Kathmandu — Police have arrested 43 people accused of involvement in violent activities during the Gen-Z protest in the capital. On September 9 (Bhadra 24), several police units and vehicles in Kathmandu district were set on fire.
DSP Purnima Chand of the Kathmandu District Police Range confirmed that the accused are being investigated under criminal disturbance charges. She said police have obtained remand from the court to continue the investigation.
Arrests in Arson Cases Across Kathmandu
Sachin Khadka, also known as “Golden,” a resident of Ward No. 13 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, was arrested for allegedly setting fire at the Kalimati Police Circle. Six people were arrested for torching police units in New Baneshwar, Koteshwor, and Narephant. Those in custody are:
Anshukumar Gupta, 19, from Rautahat, Devaraj Rai, “Ravi,” 28, from Saptari, Mukesh Shah, “Ajay,” 18, from Sarlahi, Ajaykumar Shah, “Hero,” 19, from Dhanusha, Lakkibabu Jaiswal, 24, from Rautahat, Sherav Yadav, “Mote,” 18, from Garuda, Rautahat.
Police also detained Devaraj Lama of Ghyanglek Rural Municipality–4, Sindhuli, who was living in Dhapasi, on charges of arson at the Maharajgunj Police Circle. Authorities confirmed the arrest of Yuvraj Kyapchaki of Kavre and Om Paudel of Sindhupalchok on suspicion of involvement in the killing of two police personnel in Maharajgunj.
On September 9 (Bhadra 24), Assistant Sub-Inspector Milan Rai and constable Uttam Thapa were killed during the violence.
