Nepal Leader Kamal Thapa Questions UN Plan for Bipin Joshi Hostage Release Pressure

Nepal’s RPP leader Kamal Thapa warns that taking Bipin Joshi’s parents to the United Nations to increase pressure for his release from Hamas may backfire, urging the government to explore alternative approaches.

Kathmandu – There’s been some debate over the decision to take Bipin Joshi’s parents to the United Nations to push for his release. Bipin Joshi, a Nepali citizen, has been held hostage by the Hamas group for nearly two years. Kamal Thapa, chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Nepal and former Foreign Minister, has expressed concerns about this move and urged the Nepal government to rethink it.

Thapa shared on social media that it feels a bit unusual and possibly counterproductive that the Israeli government plans to bring Joshi’s parents to the UN and the United States to increase international pressure for his release. He called on Nepal’s government to seriously reconsider allowing this.

He also warned that this action might unintentionally support the Israeli government, which is currently fighting Hamas and facing criticism over alleged human rights abuses. Thapa believes this could make the situation more complicated.

He suggested the Nepal government look for other options and thanked Israel for its cooperation but emphasized that better alternatives should be explored.

Thapa also pointed out that the government’s response so far has been delayed and insufficient. He recommended working with international humanitarian groups like the Red Cross to build effective global pressure for Joshi’s release.

In short, Kamal Thapa urges Nepal’s government to stay careful and explore all possible options to protect its citizens while respecting international humanitarian principles.
