Former PM Jhalanath Khanal Accuses Nepal Government of Failing Public Interests

Former PM Jhalanath Khanal has strongly criticized Nepal’s ruling coalition, citing corruption, mass labor migration, and lack of progress on public issues.

KATHMANDU,  – Former Prime Minister and senior CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Jhalanath Khanal has strongly criticized the current government, stating it has failed to act in the interest of the public.

Speaking at the 47th Pushpalal Memorial Day event in Kirtipur, Khanal said that although powerful parties are in government, they have been unable to deliver meaningful results. He compared the ruling coalition parties to “mighty elephants” in terms of strength but claimed they have done nothing for the welfare of the people.

Khanal expressed concern over the rising number of corruption cases, alleging that the country is being governed by corrupt forces. “Without launching a decisive campaign against corruption, the nation will not see real change,” he said.

He highlighted the growing trend of labor migration, noting that thousands of Nepalis leave the country each day for work, while the remains of several migrant workers return home daily. He questioned, “Is this the outcome of multiparty democracy and the capitalist system?”

Reflecting on the political developments since 2006, Khanal said Nepal’s communist movement lost direction at a crucial point. He described the 2007 People’s Movement as a capitalist democratic revolution that failed to bring transformative change.

Khanal called for the implementation of “New Democracy” and stressed the need for deep ideological reflection within the party. He urged political leaders to end stagnation and take bold steps to lead the country out of its current challenges.
