IT No Longer a Luxury but a Necessity, Says Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has declared information technology an essential part of daily life and governance, calling it the driving force behind the government’s Digital Nepal initiative.

Kathmandu – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed that information technology (IT) has become an indispensable part of modern life. Addressing the International Youth Information Technology Conference 2025, organized virtually by the National Youth Association Nepal on Sunday, he said IT is no longer a luxury but a fundamental necessity for daily living.

According to Prime Minister Oli, society has reached a stage where life without IT is unimaginable. “From individual routines to social activities and even state operations, information technology has become inseparable,” he remarked. He stressed that IT not only simplifies public services but also contributes to building a civilized and progressive society.

Oli emphasized that IT should be harnessed as a vital instrument for strengthening governance. He argued that transparency in public service, effective administration, and tackling corruption all depend on the strategic use of IT. “Without IT, good governance cannot be consolidated. Only through IT can citizens receive fast, reliable, and accessible services,” he stated.

The prime minister highlighted the government’s Digital Nepal initiative as the backbone of the nation’s transformation. He explained that IT is the driving force to accelerate development and that the government has integrated it into long-term national strategies. “Our future will be built on digital capability,” Oli asserted.
